Give your old furniture a new lease of life

Any festival signals rejuvenation. The day of festival is the day when we can emerge from our shells. It's not just a day to dress ourselves in our Festival best, but also to brighten up our homes. It is after all a day when friends and family will visit you, and you would naturally want them to leave your house impressed by your taste in decor. There are myriad options to make your abode look fabulous, such as new furniture, replacing sofa fabric, changing curtains and adding in a little here and there. This blog brings to you all the places you need to know about to bring a change to your home decor.

For festivals, it is important for you to reuse and restore your home; revive, revamp, recycle and reclaim, in order to create a stylish yet individual home without spending a small fortune.

This time I will explain how to give old furniture a new lease of life and how to bring a trendy or classic charm to a room through the inspired use of fabrics and paints.  There are creative ideas for reviving window dressings, beds, baths and table linens and old furniture, combining them with a color harmony. It is advisable to be careful about functional and easy maintenance.

Welcoming Entrance

Your front door is the first introduction that guests have to your style and it is not expensive to ensure that people are greeted with an attractive front door, properly polished furniture and a vintage cabinet for shoes, umbrella or a drawer unit for mail and car keys. Here we placed louvered semi classical cabinets. We kept a sleek punch top on the cabinet for small plants.  A long mirror is a gorgeous addition to any entry way makeover. Green way brings quick changes. You can easily arrange a single line of green at your stairway to your entry door.

Old living with new furnishing

An empty living space often looks smarter than one that is overcrowded, so if you cannot afford exactly what you want then leave a space for it later. Go for simple shapes in solid, neutral colors.   An old sofa reupholstered could cost one third as much as buying a new one. Here I have changed the upholstery and the cushion patterns. Actually these sofas are from the late eighties but after changing the fabric, they look quite striking. For makeovers, you can also add something tall like an open shelf for books or a decorative piece or an appealing corner of greenery. In this project, I have added an open wooden shelf.

Inviting Dining

Furnishing organically for the dining area is very essential, because it is the place where all the family members gather every time. The old dining table is in a central position, but we modified the dinner wagon. I have separated the upper unit and hung a partition two feet above the lower part. Here I made an open counter option.  I have attached another side of a lower hatch to create the illusion of it seeming like a continuous part of the serving counter. I have enhanced the lighting in this area. Colored glasses, cookeries and cutlers complete the dinner wagon.

Vintage vogue

The popularity of vintage looks has been on the rise in recent years.  I have used a classic wrought iron single bed, reminiscent of its user’s teenage memories, and floral prints in black and white for wallpaper. Fabrics can instantaneously soften harsh lines and I have introduced color to give the whole room a  much more feminine feel. Although I tended to think of vintage style as being very and predominantly floral, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t use solid colors, too. So I used solid red on the walls and also for window decor.

After the furniture, bed linen and curtains are probably the most important design elements of any room. I choose solid red curtains and lighter floral curtains for the day.

Bedroom chic

Bedrooms should be sanctuaries that provide respite from the world as well as places where you go to sleep. Recent trends have favored the use of modern furniture with a few classic pieces. Vintage furniture adds soul to a modern interior, while the crisp clean lines of modern lighting for example, provide old furniture a new edge. Here I have opted for a vintage bed, modified closet and added a new low dressing cabinet with a long mirror. Fabrics play an essential role in terms of aesthetics in any bedroom. For this room we used a minimal amount of furniture, a neutral color palette, beige classic curtains and a lovely white round mosquito net.

In terms of embellishments, be careful not to use too many, as this may tamper the visual balance of the room.
